Sunday Fotowalk with tvC

Remember yesterday? I made the statement that if you want to develop mad skills, surround yourself with people who have mad skills.

Today is a great opportunity. Bigfoot BBQ, 12pm followed by a Fotowalk at 1. Meet great people, exchange ideas and have a blast!

See you there,

Ciao bella.

Extreme Location Lighting/Modeling/Please to be no Dying

No. Seriously. There is no such thing as an ordinary workshop with my friends at the visual Collective. We go out to some of the most amazing places and CREATE.

     We go out and LEARN.

Yesterday's trip out to the SP Crater Lava Flow was no exception.

My Photography started with landscapes. As I have started working with subjects and models I have regularly found myself in kind of a creative no-mans land. I have to answer questions I didn't know I had. What do I want to say? What do I want my model/subject to say? How many different ways are there to say the same thing? How do I direct my model to make subtle changes to accomplish all this?

Actually these are the same questions I've had to answer on a lot of levels for a long time. Adding a model/subject just increases the complexity.....a lot.

There are some truly important things to remember in these situations that apply all through life:

Never judge my insides by someone else's  outsides.

I have 2 ears and 1 mouth. I can always learn more by listening and observing than I can by talking.

You want mad skills? Surround yourself with people who have mad skills.

I'm really happy with my results from yesterday and I need to offer a special thanks beyond those I'd like to give to the tvC crew. Those thanks go to our intrepid model, Vanessa.

There was more than one occasion during our shoot where I could see Vanessa pleading for direction from me, direction I couldn't communicate yet. Vanessa, thanks for your patience. Your willingness to work with me, even when I couldn't exactly communicate what I wanted from you, only serves to help me develop into a better photographer.

     Ciao Bella,

First Friday Arwalk with MARSart at Bergerets Gallery

I have had a shoot or two go go wrong lately by taking something for granted. Never a big thing....until it counted. What can I say? I just keep learning.

When I got the chance to do a bit of event photography and run a photobooth for my friend Andy's opening at Bergeret's Gallery for First Friday Artwalk, I took a moment to get my sh*t together. I rarely see my fellow photographers talk about their mistakes but, I need to really get and stay focused on the little things beforehand. Made this night AWESOME!
