Sprint to the Grand Opening!!

Some time ago, a friend of mine and were once again grousing about the lack of accessible studio space for photographers in Flagstaff. If you didn't have access to the NAU studios, you were basically out of luck. We looked at, considered, investigated discarded at least 2 or 3 locations.

Then without too much actual work on our behalf, the Laws of a Benevolent Universe conspired to find a place for us.

Studio 204 was born.

Here's the Press Release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Flagstaff, AZ. 12 June 2012

Studio 204 provides working and creative space to Flagstaff’s photographic community. Full services are expected well before the Mayan apocalypse.

Flagstaff Arizona is a creative community with a large photographic contingent and (until now) no studio facilities available to the photographers at large.

Studio 204 changes that. With a grand opening scheduled to coincide with the First Friday Artwalk of July, Studio 204 will provide much needed working studio space to Flagstaff’s photographic community.

Studio 204 is the conceptual creation of Matt Beaty and Dano Gruen. Beaty, a recent NAU graduate, developed essential studio skills while studying and was left without access to studio space upon graduation. Gruen, a long time Flagstaff resident and former broadcaster began converting his home into studio space last year, with frustrating results.

According to Beaty: “My creativity can strike at odd hours. I wanted a place to work, hang out and it needs to be a place that lets other people do the same.”

Gruen says: “I took my home studio as far as I could for now. It’s real isolating. Every time I work with others I grow as an artist and a photographer. Studio 204 is going to build on the energy of creating with other people.”

The two collaborated on the Help-Portrait benefit in December which brought professional level portrait services to Flagstaff residents in need. This year’s Help Portrait doubled the number of people served via their efforts.

The two have joined forces again to create Studio 204.

Studio 204 ‘s mission is simple: “Providing workspace for photographers to create, collaborate and grow.”

The space for Studio 204 has been secured at 13 N. San Francisco Street, Studio 204, in historic downtown Flagstaff. Rates, access and other details are being finalized prior to the grand opening on Friday July 6th.

We've each done a little work in there and it's turning out to be a great space. We're getting things ready for the Grand Opening tomorrow! We each have friends kicking in unique elements to make the event rock. I Hope you get to come by! If you do, remember Studio 204 has rules:

1) Everybody talks about studio 204.
2) If it's your first time at Studio 204, you gotta shoot, you gotta get shot.
3) If it's you second time at studio 204, you gotta shoot, you gotta get shot.

If Casey and his kids can do it, you know you can do it!

It's gonna be great!

Ciao Bella,

Dano
